Iacovos (Makis) Keravnos (Greek: Ιάκωβος (Μάκης) Κεραυνός; born 18 December 1951) is a Cypriot banker and politician.

Career

Political career

Keravnos currently serves as Minister of Finance.[1] He has held the position of Minister of Labor and Social Security from 3 March 2003 to 18 May 2004 and again as Minister of Finance from 19 May 2004 to 30 August 2005.[1]

Banking career

From September 2005 to September 2014, Keravnos was the CEO of the Hellenic Bank, which was the country's third largest bank at the time.[1]

European Union Representation

He was the first Minister of Finance for Cyprus following its accession to the European Union. Keravnos represented Cyprus in various meetings of the Council of Ministers. In May 2004, he played a key role in ushering Cyprus into the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, marking the nation's initial step towards joining the euro area by 1 January 2008.

Board Appointments

In 2006, Keravnos was named Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, serving a full term from 2006 to 2009.[1] As of October 2018, he has been a non-executive member of the Board of Directors for the Central Bank of Cyprus.[1]
