Dorothy E. Denning ( 1945 Grand Rapids, Michigan [5][6]) on yhdysvaltalainen matemaatikko, tietoturvapioneeri ja -tutkija.
1970-luvun puolivälissä Denning piti Purduen yliopistossa Yhdysvaltojen ensimmäisiä tietoturvaan ja kryptografiaan liittyneitä yliopistokursseja. Hänen julkaisunsa A Lattice Model of Secure Information Flow loi 1976 teoreettisen pohjan yksisuuntaiseen tiedon etenemiseen perustuvan tietoturvan toteuttamiselle. Vuonna 1982 hän kirjoitti kirjan Cryptography and Data Security -oppikirjan, joka toimi alan perusteoksena julkisen avaimen salausten toteuttamisesta.[7]
1980-luvulla Denning siirtyi yliopistosta yritysmaailmaan. Hän kehitti SRI Internationalilla pohjan nykyisille reaaliaikaisille tunkeutumisen havaitsemisjärjestelmille ja toimi ohjelmistokehittäjänä Digital Equipment Corporationilla. DEC:ltä Denning siirtyi professoriksi Georgetownin yliopistoon. Hän siirtyi sittemmin puolustusanalytiikan professoriksi Yhdysvaltain laivaston Naval Postgraduate School -opistoon.[8]
Yksityiselämä
Dorothy E. Denning syntyi Grand Rapidsissa Michiganissa ja on naimisissa Peter Denningin kanssa, jonka hän tapasi Purduen yliopistossa.[9]
