Ilan Pappé (Ibrani: אילן פפהcode: he is deprecated ; lahir 7 November 1954) ialah seorang sejarawan dan ahli sains politik kelahiran Israel. Beliau pensyarah kanan Universiti Haifa (1984–2007) serta pengerusi Institut Kajian Palestin dan Israel Emil Touma Haifa (2000–2008); apabila beliau berpindah ke UK pula, beliau menjadi profesor Kolej Sains Masyarakat dan Kajian Antarabangsa serta Pusat Kajian Palestin Eropah di Universiti Exeter.[1]

Beliau tergolong dalam kelompok sejarawan warga Israel beraliran "baru" (Ibrani: ההיסטוריונים החדשים, lit. 'HaHistoryonim HaChadashim'code: he is deprecated ) yang menulis mencabar pemahaman umum terhadap pembentukan entiti Israel serta pengusiran warga Palestin berdasarkan dokumen-dokumen baharu dibongkarkan dari simpanan British dan Israel yang dihujahkan telah lama dirancang pihak Ganah sejak tahun 1947.[2] Penelitian ini banyak mencetuskan tengkarah dalam Israel baik dari sejarawan lain mahupun ahli politik Israel sehingga beliau disasar ancam mati.[3] Beliau sendiri tidak sahaja menyokong pemboikotan cendekiawan senegaranya[4][5] malah mendokong penyelesaian satu negara menyatukan warga Israel dan Palestin.[6]

Awal hidup dan pendidikan

Pappé lahir di Haifa kepada pasangan suami isteri yang melarikan diri dari Jerman berikutan dikuasai pihak Nazi tahun 1930-an.[7][3] Beliau dikerahkan sebagai askar memasuki Dataran Tinggi Golan semasa Perang Yom Kippur tahun 1973.[7]

Beliau mengaji di Universiti Ibrani Baitulmaqdis dengan kelulusan Sarjana Muda Bachelor of Arts (BA) tahun 1978.[8] Beliau kemudian meneruskan pengajian lanjut jurusan sejarah di Universiti Oxford untuk ijazah menghabiskan Kedoktoran Falsafah (DPhil) di bawah pengawasan Albert Hourani dan Roger Owen.[7] tesis kedoktoran beliau "dasar luar negeri Britain terhadap Timur Tengah, 1948-1951: Britain dan konflik Arab-Israel" (British foreign policy towards the Middle East, 1948-1951: Britain and the Arab-Israeli conflict, 1984)[9] kemudian dibukukan menjadi buku pertamanya Britain and the Arab-Israeli Conflict.[4]
