The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (sh. Legenda o Sleepy Hollowu ili, doslovno, Legenda o sanjivoj dolini) je pripovjetka američkog književnika Washingtona Irvinga objavljena 1820. godine. Radnja se događa oko 1790. u fiktivnom naselju Sleepy Hollow sjeverno od gradića Tarrytowna u unutrašnjosti države New York. Protagonist je Ichabod Crane, yankeejevski učitelj iz Connecticuta koji dolazi u sukob sa žiteljima nizozemskog porijekla, istovremeno pokušavajući osvojiti ruku kćeri-jedinice najbogatijeg čovjeka u mjestu, dok istovremeno čuje priče o tajanstvenom bezglavom jahaču. Sleepy Hollow, uz Rip van Winkle, objavljen prethodne godine i kasnije uvršten u zbirku The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent., predstavlja najpopularnije djelo Irvingovog opusa i često se navodi kao jedan od prvih klasika američke književnosti. Kasnije je postala predmetom niza filmskih i televizijskih adaptacije. Godine 1996. su žitelji mjesta North Tarrytown u čast priči odlučili promijeniti ime u Sleepy Hollow.
