The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (sh. Tajni život Waltera Mittyja) je američka filmska komedija snimljena 1947. u režiji Normana Z. McLeoda. Predstavlja adaptaciju istoimene priče Jamesa Thurbera. Naslovni protagonist, čiji lik tumači Danny Kaye, je skromni i povučeni lektor u izdavačkoj kući, koji spas od frustracija na poslu i kod kuće pokušava pronaći maštajući o sebi kao velikom junaku. Radnja prikazuje komplikacije koje nastaju kada slučajno upozna djevojku (čiji lik tumači Virginia Mayo), koja izgleda kao žena iz njegovih fantazija.

Scenario filma je samo okvirno koristio Thurberov tekst, te su mnogi detalji dodani samo zato da bi se maksimalno iskoristio komičarski talent Dannyja Kayea. Iako se Thurber s time nije složio, film je doživio veliki uspjeh i od Kayea načinio veliku zvijezdu. Godine 2008. je Empire The Secret Life o Walter Mitty proglasio 479. na listi od 500 najboljih filmova svih vremena.

Godine 2013. je snimljen istoimeni remake gdje je glavnu ulogu tumačio Ben Stiller.
